Instrument of Mercy is a Christian blog written and created by Joe Forrest.

Unlike most blog sites, the articles on Instrument of Mercy are a little different. You’re not going to find any “day-in-the-life” posts or angry reactions to the news. Instead, you’ll find in-depth and long-form articles exploring some of the most complex and controversial issues in church and culture.

These articles are long because the topics I choose to cover deserve an ample amount of research, respect, and exposition. Each article on this site represents a personal journey I undertook to make sense of the world and my faith.

I don’t want or expect you to agree with everything I have to say.
Most of my conclusions will be deeply troubling for a lot of people and will probably lead to more questions than assurances.

More than anything, I hope this blog will push you out of your comfort zone, challenge your faith, and force you to ask hard questions about what you believe and why.

Because, at the end of the day, I don’t really care what you believe or don’t believe about God.
I care about how those beliefs translate into your day-to-day life.

I’ve attempted to make this blog accessible to everyone – regardless of religious or political background – without diluting or compromising my personal convictions or beliefs.

This is a place to doubt,
and wrestle,
and ask questions,
and push each other to be better citizens of Earth and Heaven.

But that doesn’t mean you won’t find yourself a little bruised, challenged, or convicted by what you read or experience here.

I can make no guarantees that once you peek the behind the curtain, you’ll ever be able to look at the world, your daily habits, your church, or your faith the same way again.

For far too long, we’ve been conditioned to see the world through filters of black and white and discouraged from asking hard questions about God, the Bible, and how we interact with the world.

If you don’t want your boat rocked or your shallow faith challenged, this may not be a safe place for you.

For everyone else, pack your bags and get ready for an adventure.
